Spence brings expertise to new role

David Spence is stepping into a newly created position at Noble REMC — and the opportunity to shape the role is part of what makes it so exciting.

Spence joined the co-op in July as our operations technology systems administrator. Since then, he has made the position his own by managing the cooperative’s mission-critical industrial control systems.

He oversees the installation, maintenance, and security of systems that support grid operations, including supervisory control and data acquisition, advanced metering infrastructure, and distribution automation equipment. He also collaborates with the information technology team to help deliver safe, reliable power to members.

Spence brings a strong background in information technology and security to the role. He is an ETA-certified computer service technician, holds an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, and is working toward the CompTIA Security+ cybersecurity certification. As he settles into operations technology, he is eager to expand his expertise and take on new responsibilities.

His introduction to the cooperative came sooner than expected. On the same day he signed his offer letter, the underground power line serving his home failed. But on the bright side, the outage gave him an early opportunity to meet two future co-workers as Noble REMC lineworkers restored service that evening.

Outside of work, Spence enjoys spending time with his wife, Kimberly, and daughter, Kaley. He serves as an assistant coach for Kaley’s travel softball team, the K-County Kraken 12U, and operates amateur radio equipment.

Welcome to the team, David!
