Camp Kilowatt brightens up the summer

Camp Kilowatt campers pose with Noble REMC sign

Cooperative, community and camp came together in early June, when Noble REMC was fortunate to sponsor two area middle school students to attend Camp Kilowatt in Brookston: Nolan Allen and Hunter Carnahan.

The students’ agenda combined traditional outdoor camp activities — everything from archery and canoeing to zip lining and an obstacle ropes course — with environmental education, electrical safety practices and cooperative business education.

Allen, who attends Indian Springs Middle School, was pushed out of his comfort zone but came back with a lot of great stories and facts.

“At Camp Kilowatt, they challenge you to do a skit. It is scary at first, but then it’s tons of fun. The ziplines are tons of fun, too,” he wrote. “At camp, you learn about how 1/3 of a volt of electricity can make your heart go to an unfixable ratio! Tons of good food and good times. Go to Camp Kilowatt, and you will be guaranteed a fun time! Thank you, Noble REMC, for sponsoring me to go to Camp Kilowatt.”

The camp is open to seventh-grade students each summer, so if you know someone who may be interested in the coming years, keep an eye out early each year for applications to open!
